How to play

Thank you so much for choosing Herlock Sholmes for your Krimidinner experience!

Our games are structured a bit differently than other games you might have played before, so there are a few things we would like you to know before playing.

1. I will go into depth about the structure of our games later, but generally speaking our games supposed to be more „casual“ than other games. This means you can spontaneously buy the game and play it in about 1 or 2 hours, or you can plan it and use our recipe suggestions to have a full evening experience that, depending on your playstyle and expertise, can last up to 3 hours without breaks.

2. We give you a lot of general Information about your character, and it is really important for the quality of the game, that you try to really get into your role. Also if there are critical details about your role, we will tell you about that. For example: If you are a policeman, you should not play a „dirty cop“ if you are not explicitly told to.

3. On the other hand, we purposely leave out some information about your characters actions, that you can interpret and imagine as you like. For example: You get told that you have been seen on the docks meeting a shady figure, but you are not told why. Use your imagination and think of reason that fits your character.

4. When you buy our games, you get a recommended playlist, and some recommended recipes. We suggest you use these to fully enter the setting of your game but if it is not possible, you can play and eat whatever you like.

With these things in mind, we have a few Rules you have to follow, so the game makes sense.

1. Only the murderer is allowed to lie. Innocent players can avoid questions they do not want to answer, or deflect to other players, but are not allowed to lie.

2. You should under no circumstances look at player sheets of other players, or share information before the game starts.

The games are structured as follows:

1. Introduction Round: Every player introduces themselves. You get to tell which details of your character you want to share, and what you want to stay hidden. It is also very much recommended to take notes about the others.

2. Hints & Observations Round: Every character gets 4 hints and 2 observations. Some of them lead to solving the case and some of them are there to confuse you. You once again get to decide what you want to be public. You can choose how you want to play this round, you could either play it in 5 „subrounds“, or you play one round in which you can freely talk and discuss. The second option is a bit faster, but harder to solve.

3. Solution Round: You have one last discussion, and then all players write the name of the character they think committed the murder on a piece of paper. The solution is then read by the host.

If you follow all these steps, your Krimidinner evening will go great, and you and your friends will have a lot of fun acting as Criminals and Detectives!

We really need your feedback to upgrade our games and your experience, so please consider telling us what you think. And don’t hold back! We want to get better and present you the ultimate Krimidinner experience. Maybe some of the good detectives will even find a present when they leave feedback for us?
